He's home...
Marie's dad has been living in the guest bedroom for a few days now. Marie's father keeps begging her to come home and she simply replies with, "I can't." She didn't know how to explain to her father that she wanted to cut all ties with him and Colombia. She couldn't find a way to break loose from his iron grip. He seemed to control every meticulous aspect of her life and everyone connected to Marie seemed to be on her dad's payroll in one way or another. Her dad constantly rambled about Colombia and how everyone was doing there yet somehow he failed to mention Marie's mother and avoided the tragedy as if it didn’t happen. It was driving Marie to insanity and she knew she needed to escape at least for a few hours or so. She yelled to her dad on the way out that she was going on a run and he called out mumbling something about the weather being bad.
She went to Yelsnag park and starts smoking a cigarette to take the edge off. She looked up to see black clouds start to billow above. “Shit!” she stammered. In that moment the clouds opened unleashing a downfall of gumball sized hail. Marie panicked and crouched under the nearest park bench.
She suddenly saw a car and yelled, “Hey!” She waved her arms frantically as the car came to a stop. She realized the driver to be Mr. Gatolli from Pointe Place.
He yelled "Get in!” They arrived at Pointe Place and the tornado had touched down. They knew they couldn’t make it up to one of their apartments so they ran into the bathroom nestled in the lobby’s corner. They catch their breath for a few moments and then Marie and him make eye contact for the first time.
"Thank you Mr. Gatolli. You saved me from the storm." Marie stammered.
"No worries. You are Mr. Matías daughter aren’t you. You are a striking resemblance of him, and your mother too if i might add. "
Marie took a sharp breath. Her mother? What did he know about her? Hesitantly she replied, "Yes I am Marie Matías. What is the importance I might ask?"
"Don't worry about kid," Mr. Gatollia says with such intensity that Marie knew not to prod him any further. They sat there in absolute silence for the duration of the storm.
