It was early Saturday morning...
It was early Saturday morning, and Marie paced around her apartment complex holding a steaming mug of milk with sugar, a treat her mother always made for her when she was young. Five steps to the left, five steps to the right, back and forth anxiously biting her freshly manicured nails. She decided she needed to leave her suffocating apartment because she could not stop thinking about her father.
Marie’s father, Nicolás, booked a plane ticket immediately to come see her after receiving the news of Mr. Evan’s death. After all, he was paying Mr. Evans to look out for his daughter while he was in Colombia. Marie’s nervousness surrounding her dad’s visit began to overwhelm her. She knew George would listen to her because they spoke often during in the early mornings while Marie walked Atlas.
George was standing by the doorway with a smiling face. Marie approached George, “Hey Georgie. How are you today? Do you have a minute?”
George replied, “I woke up today and was able to get out of bed which is something to be grateful for in itself. What’s wrong dear? You seem agitated by something or rather someone.”
“I have to pick my dad up from the airport in five hours. I haven’t seen him since my mother’s funeral. In my hometown in Colombia I am seen as a traitor for abandoning my father’s side my mother’s death. I can’t see past him as being a criminal. I have told you often that because of his drug dealings, my mother’s life was taken brutally by one of the many enemies. I cannot fathom how my father even sleeps at night.” said Marie.
Georgie paused and replied cautiously “Your father has his wrongdoings but I know that he loves you so very much, no matter if you want him out of your life or not. He is flying all the way here to be with you because he knows how lonely you are, especially with Mr. Evans not looking out for you. Just try and listen to his side instead of endlessly pushing him away. You need to bring peace to your tormented mind, and this may be the first step.”
Marie thanked George for constantly listening to her and she continued on her walk, taking deep breaths and trying to clear her mind in preparation for the hours to come.
"That's it," he spoke to the koi swimming by. "It's time to bring the garden to the people, or the people to the garden."
ReplyDeleteSo he gathered small seedling pots, and separated some larger plants, and transplanted them. He stood gazing over his projects.
For the rest of the evening, as the sun was going down, he labelled the pots for delivery to the residents. By 3 AM he had delivered to Anna, Arizona, and Brendan a "Flaming Katy"
to Caris, Cleo, and Joseph a "Panda Plant" to Letitia, Luca, and Pierre a "Crown of Thorns" he thought they all needed a little light and interest in their lives.
To Eliana, Marie, and Violet a Burro's tail because, well, he couldn't really explain why.
He thought Tyson, Don Tom and Apollo along with Ollie needed a bit of Aloe Vera.
Finally, Maple, Master Gooway and Violet would receive a larger sampling of Jade Plants. For some reason, Jack thought that they needed a Bonsai variation - they needed a hobby to calm themselves.
